Tortilla Soup

(recipe by way of a Canadian friend!)

2 tablespoons oil
1 onion chopped
2 garlic cloves minced
2 cans chopped tomatoes
1 cup salsa
3 cups water
chili powder
1/2 packet taco seasoning
10 corn tortillas cut into strips
shredded cheese

Heat oil in a soup pot, add onion and garlic and saute until golden.
Add remaining ingredients, except for tortillas and cheese.
Simmer for 25 min.
Ladle into bowls and top with tortillas and grated cheese. Makes 6 servings.
