Pencil Pops

Cook: Various

Cook: Stepz, California USA

some regular pencils
corn syrup
sugar
water
salt
food coloring (optional)
flavoring (optional - suggested!)

Mix ingredients in a pot then bring it to a boil. Let it boil for a few minutes being CAREFUL not to let it burn. During this, you must keep stirring and may add food coloring and/or flavors if you want to. Soon you will turn off the boilers and (very) quickly dip in the ends of all the pencils.
(Be very careful a this point as a hot sugar burn is very nasty... I speak from experience - Ed.)

After this the only way to get the sugar out is to cook another batch in the same pot, but instead of dipping in the pencils, you pour onto a greased cookie sheet and cut into shapes.
(Another way to clean the pot is let the sugar dissolve in water, but that takes tons of time.)

These pencils are helpful during long tests (if you get hungry). The only downside is that they sometimes get sticky and the erasers don't work through the layer of candy.
