From 1995 until, ooh, about 2003 I created nearly 200 little gifs for people to 'adopt' and put on their own web pages. The original text went a little something like this:

Greetings! You have reached the home of the Page Guardians.
Together we guard these pages, and who knows? Some time soon we may be guarding yours.
Each of the Guardians protects something specific. Please take the time to introduce yourself to each one. When you have met the Guardian who has most impressed you with their virtues, right click and transport them to your own hard drive.

I've popped a good few of the original guardians on this page. As for the virtues they stood for ... well I think you can make up your own :-) If you still want to 'adopt' these images, go ahead! A link back to me would be appreciated.
